Helen Slater portrays Kristin Mercer, a loving wife and mother. Lately she has felt hurt by her strained relationship with adopted daughter Sutton. When Sutton suddenly starts acting more agreeable, Kristin’s thrilled. She doesn’t yet know that this “Sutton” is actually twin sister Emma. But Kristin has a secret too, and it’s what caused Sutton to pull away from her mom in the first place.
Slater has enjoyed a long and successful career in film – including starring roles in “Supergirl,” “The Legend of Billie Jean,” “Ruthless People,” “The Secret of My Success” and “City Slickers.” Television credits include guest-starring turns on “Seinfeld,” “Caroline in the City,” “Boston Public,” “Law & Order: SVU,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Smallville” and “Private Practice.” Recently she completed the series “Gigantic” for Teen Nickelodeon, starring Grace Gummer.
Born in New York to a lawyer/activist mother and a television executive father, Slater graduated from the famous High School of the Performing Arts the same year she made her TV debut in the ABC Afterschool Special, “Amy and the Angel” (co-starring James Earl Jones and Meg Ryan).
An accomplished singer-songwriter, she has released three CDs, “One of These Days,” “Crossword” and “Shine.” Slater also co-founded the NYC theatre group Naked Angels with actors Rob Morrow, Fisher Stevens and Mary Stuart Masterson. In Los Angeles she is a founding member of the comedy/improvisation troupe “The Bubalaires.”
